Cohort II - Application

The application process is managed through the NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing Office of Research.

We welcome applications from Post-Doctoral Fellows, Assistant Professors, as well as Assistant and Associate Professor level nursing and midwifery faculty at R2 Universities in the United States. Researchers  who completed their nursing education outside the US but a PhD in the US are fully eligible to apply. Previous work experience as a nurse or midwife is preferred for all applicants.

Program Eligibility Criteria

 

To be eligible for this program, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Academic Rank: Enrolled in a post-doctoral fellowship program, current employment as an Assistant Professor at any level, or up to an Associate Professor at an R2 University in the United States.

  • Education: Completion of a PhD or other research-intensive doctoral degree in nursing/midwifery or a related field.

  • Candidates with an International background: Researchers who completed a PhD in the United States, are currently employed, and have a background in nursing or midwifery are fully eligible.

  • Clinical Practice: At least one year of clinical practice as a registered nurse or midwife. A work experience exemption may be requested.

  • Work Experience: Previous work experience within health systems and with immigrant populations is desirable though not required. This experience is, however, highly valued for building sustainable programs of research, but is preferred rather than required for applicants with a US-based nursing PhD.

  • Research Focus: Intention to build a program of research focused on addressing the factors associated with the health of new Americans, with a specific emphasis on the role of nativity or the migration experience's impact on health.

  • Program Commitment: Ability to commit to attending a one week in-person program, participation in virtual program components (15 sessions), and ongoing applied research mentoring.

  • Research Training Compliance: Completion of CITI training or equivalent responsible conduct of research training.

Q: How should I submit my supervisor/mentor recommendation?

A: You may upload the recommendation letter directly to the portal. Please note that these letters do not need to be blinded; you are welcome to handle the upload yourself.

Study Design & Proposals
Q: What type of study design is acceptable for the proposal?

A: You may propose any study design that best fits your research goals, including mixed methods. We encourage you to propose the concept you feel is most impactful.

Q: Can I include a Co-Investigator (Co-I) on my application?

A: Yes, you may name a Co-Investigator. However, please keep in mind that the pilot grant amount is typically between $3,000 and $5,000, so your budget should be planned accordingly.
