Preparing early career researchers in Nursing & Midwifery to develop programs of research centered on improving the health of the 52 million new Americans who have come to live, work, and play in the United States and the 25 million who are now naturalized citizens.

Program Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this program, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

Completion of a PhD or other research-intensive doctoral degree in nursing or a related field within the last five (5) years
-
At least one year of clinical practice as a registered nurse
-
Previous work experience within the health system and with immigrant populations, which is particularly important for building sustainable and realistic programs of research
-
Intention to build a program of research focused on addressing the social determinants of immigrant health
-
Ability to commit to in-person program attendance, participation in virtual program components, and ongoing applied research mentoring
-
Current employment in a research-intensive role
-
Completion of CITI training or equivalent responsible conduct of research training
Application Materials
Applicants will be asked to submit the following materials:
1. Applicant Information
Complete a detailed profile including:

Previous Training: Assessment of prior training in the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH)

Immigrant Population of Interest: Specify region and/or country of origin

Research Interests: Health or health services topics of interest

Language Skills: Other languages spoken and level of proficiency
2. Video Introduction

Submit a 1-minute video introducing yourself and describing the origins of your research interests in SDOH and immigrant populations.
3. Research Concept Note

A 2-page (750-word) brief research concept note using the standardized template provided.
4. Curriculum Vitae (CV)

Submit a CV using a standardized template to ensure equitable evaluation.
5. Letter of Recommendation

A 2-page letter of recommendation from an advisor, mentor, supervisor, or administrator, addressing:

Confirmation of the applicant’s interest in studying immigrant health

How participation in the program will benefit the applicant’s work

Assessment of research leadership potential

Confirmation of release time to participate in the full program
